Carl Ward can advise you on the general maintenance of your thatch to include how to avoid moss and algae accumulating. This can be due to damp which can be caused by overhanging trees that shade the roof from sunlight.
We can clean the roof and carry out any maintenance procedures needed. We also recommend that people or other trades people do not stand ladders up against the thatch or walk over the thatch as this can also bring damage that would, in time, escalate and cause problems.
To check your roof to see if it has worn you will notice that the wire netting may look slightly raised over the thatch? This could mean that the thatch underneath has or is degrading. Also, if moss and Lichens (a slow growing leaf-like plant) seem to be growing on the roof then it is best to seek advice. There are numerous other signs of wear and tear that are best diagnosed by a thatcher.
The life of your thatched roof depends on the material used but can be up to 40 long years with occasional re-ridging that will require doing (on the top of the roof).
If you have maintenance concerns, we are happy to arrange to pop out to give you a free estimate and hopefully put your mind at ease.
